COMMITTED
TO EXCELLENT SERVICE
Our philosophy has been that the patient always comes first.
Why Do You Need a Podiatrist?
Podiatrists are foot and lower body doctors. Some may refer to a podiatrist as a doctor of podiatric medicine or a DPM. Most podiatrists also have the letters DPM after their name. A podiatric specialist analyzes and treats the foot, ankle, and connecting tissues, muscles, and ligaments in the leg.
Our podiatrists at Southernmost Foot & Ankle Specialists treat patients of all ages for a wide range of foot and lower body conditions. Some of the treatments and services we administer include:
- Surgery
- Wound Care
- Sports Medicine
- Diabetic Foot Care
If your feet or lower body hurts, you may need to see a podiatrist. Sometimes things may seem innocuous but indicate more significant problems that may evolve as time goes on. In some patients, even mild symptoms can mean a serious problem or condition is already present.
Some of the most common foot problems that we see at our facility include:
Blisters
Blisters are a common, painful skin condition where fluid fills a space between the layers of the skin. They typically form when something repeatedly rubs against the skin. The fluid-filled bubbles are a pain but are easily treated by a foot doctor in Homestead from our team and, in some cases, at home on your own.
You have several options to help prevent blisters. Ensuring shoes are broken in and fit well and wearing proper-fitting clothing can prevent chafing and rubbing that causes blisters. Additionally, wearing proper equipment when engaging in athletic activities and work can prevent pinches and other tight situations.
Plantar Warts
A plantar wart is a rough, hard growth that appears on the soles of the feet. They will grow into the skin due to the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.
Patients that suffer from plantar warts will experience a small, fleshy growth on the bottom of the foot. Some plantar warts form a hard, thickened callus where the wart grows inward. These areas are often painful and tender, mainly when walking or standing.
EMERGENCY OPERATOR
24 HOURS
Get emergency care from a specialist right from the start. Don’t go to an urgent care, ER or general doctor. Come straight the specialist.
Corns
Corns develop as a result of bone pressure against the skin. Patients commonly develop these on the tops and sides of their toes and on the balls of the feet. Corns may be hard and dry or soft and mushy.
Corns are typically caused by poor-fitting footwear or due to an arthritis condition. Specialists will approach treating corns by removing them. However, corns may return unless the source of pressure is addressed. Removal works with proper foot hygiene and care to prevent future problems.
Morton’s Neuroma
Morton’s Neuroma is a painful condition that occurs by the thickening of nerve tissue that impacts the ball of the foot. Most patients will display this condition between the third and fourth toes. However, it may appear on any part of the foot.
Treating Morton’s Neuroma involves anti-inflammatory administrations to reduce pain and discomfort and padding and taping to support the foot arch and provide space between the toes.
In some cases, Morton’s Neuroma may require surgery to remove the affected nerve impacting the health of the ball of the foot.
